Restoration Ideas You're Sure to Love

After owning the same house for more than 20 years, it came time to decide whether to sell the home or fix it up. And after weeks of contemplation, I realized that I just was not ready to close the door on all the memories held in the home. But I also didn't want to live in a shabby old house anymore. So, I decided to do get involved with some restoration projects – the kitchen, bathrooms, and living room were all updated, as well as the roof. I also redesigned the entire property's landscape to give it a brand new look. Now that everything is complete, I miss the process! So, I thought I would relive some of my favorite projects by sharing ideas, tips, and tricks for renovation that might interest you. Hopefully you'll find the things I have to share inspiring and encouraging.

4 Reasons To Buy Bedding Made From Hemp Fabric

by Jonathan Lucas

Consumers who are seeking an alternative to bedding made from polyester and cotton should consider purchasing bedding made from hemp fiber. Although hemp has been used to produce products ranging from paper to rope since the beginning of civilization, it has fallen out of favor in modern times. Fortunately, hemp is currently experiencing a renaissance. Following are four reasons to purchase bedding made from hemp fabric.

Hemp is Sustainable

Hemp cultivation requires very little added fertilizer and pesticides, reducing environmental contamination generally associated with raising crops for fiber and food. Another benefit of hemp is that the plants have deep roots that provide the soil with the aeration that they need to help it from becoming impacted. Hemp leaves also add nitrogen and other organic material to the soil when the hemp plants exfoliate. When hemp is harvested for fiber, it is left to soften in the fields for a period of time after it is removed -- unlike many other crops, hemp has been grown continuously in the same place for as much as twenty years with no noticeable impact on the quality of the soil.

Hemp Keeps You Cool in Summer and Warm in Winter

Because hemp fibers are breathable, bedding made from it helps keep you cool in the summer and warm in winter -- yet hemp also has a superior heat capacity rating compared to other fibers, making it an excellent choice for keeping you warm in winter.

Hemp is Strong

Bedding and other items made from hemp are more durable than their counterparts made from more commonly used materials. in fact, hemp fiber is up to eight times as strong as fiber crafted from cotton. Because its superior strength makes it much less likely to erode, tear, and otherwise fall apart than bedding made with other fabrics, you won't have to replace items nearly as often.

Hemp is Losing Its Stigma

Because hemp comes from the same family of plants as marijuana, it has long been stigmatized to the extent that its cultivation has been illegal for decades. Fortunately, today's lawmakers are finally seeing the light concerning the many benefits of hemp, and industrial cultivation is now legal in some form in at least 28 states. More states are expected to follow suit at some point in the future, so consumers can expect to see many more products crafted from hemp in the coming years.
